The popularity of herbal medicine has exploded during the past decade, with herbal remedies becoming increasingly available in such conventional outlets as drugstores and even supermarkets. Prescription for Herbal Healing brings to herbal medicine the same in-depth, easy-to-understand information and accessible style that Prescription for Nutritional Healing successfully brought to diet and nutritional supplements.
This book is divided into three parts for easy reference. Part I discusses the basic principles of herbal medicine and outlines the properties and characteristics of some one hundred sixty single herbs and sixty herbal combination formulas. Part II describes more than one hundred fifty common disorders, conveniently arranged in alphabetical order from acne to yeast infection, and names the herbal therapies that can be used in the treatment of those conditions. Part III is a guide to using various kinds of herbal and other alternative therapies. In addition, it includes self-diagnostic tests and boxed insets throughout, which offer detailed information on a wide variety of topics.
Complete coverage of Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs make this volume entirely comprehensive, and thorough scientific references lend it an authority not found in any other herbal book. Prescription for Herbal Healing is the definitive herbal resource and is a necessity for any health-conscious consumer. more info

Very Informative.

I was pleasantly suprised at how easy it is to garner information from this book. Quite informative, and extremely interesting. Very helpful for someone who is wanting to become healthier in a natural way. I would recommend this book.

This has got to be the most comprehensive herbal resource available. Easy to look up by herb and by condition. Fully explanations. Finding the recommended products (in the correct form) is sometime the biggest challenge!
Try herbs for healing

In 2001 i developed some sort of problem, which was stomach or possibly liver related.I used to drink alot, and i got kind of giddy from it during the day.Something internal was telling me to give the drink away.I did but the lightheadedness stayed.I went to the doctor about it,after some blood tests, they couldnt find one thing wrong with me.Now this lasted about a year on and off.Certain things seemed to trigger it,and i couldnt figure out what to do about it.The doctors seemed useless to me,i wondered if i would get out of this problem i had because even though i didnt drink, there was some days i felt realy out of it.Now i wouldnt take herbal remedys without checking with a doctor first. One day i decided to type in my symptoms on the internet and hit search to see what would happen.Alot of things came up about herbal remedys. So i experimented with some of the bitters herbs, and i couldnt believe what an instant difference it made. One herb which i had the most success with is lavender.First time i took it i knew i was onto something good.Another one was dandelion root,i had them in a tea. There was mixtures of bitters herbs i tried, and some liver tonics. But the tea was the most effective for me.These days every now and then i may feel it a little, just to remind me im not 22 anymore.I do not take the herbal teas unless i need to,because they are less effective if you always take them.Which is why if you have something similar i certainly would give alcohol the boot as i did.I can tell you prior to this i payed little attention to herbal remedys, but they have sold me these days.I experimented with quite a few different herbs, just to see which ones were the most effective. All the time getting better and better. So if you have an ailment of some description, seriously look into this, sometimes you may have to experiment to find the right herb for your case.
Great work!

a must have

To make it short: if you are a therapist who works with phytotherapy, this book is a must for you. It gives you a great foundation of knowledge, that can be your base to heal in a holistic way.
Great Book

This too is a great resource tool. I take herbs and vitamin supplements as preventative medicine. This book tells me how to take the herb, describes the different forms of the herb, and tells me the best way to use the herb. In addidtion, it lists the cautionary measure – if there are any related to the specific herb. These herbs were used in the remedies that my Mother, grandparents, and great grandparents used. It worked for them then, and they still work now. Thanks for adding to my health education through the “Prespcription for Herbal Healing.” Another great resource tool for my library.

Prescription for Herbal Healing
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my brother’s graduation from Pharmacy college – for reference to the world of herbal medecines sold in most retail drug stores and health food stores. I was disappointed in the book – it did not include some of the remedies I have tried for my IBS and candida. Also, I was hoping for information on how much/how often to use the herbs/oils/powders, etc. I would have exchanged it but needed to give my brother something for graduation party.
WELL WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION!!!

There are not many things left in this world that give you MORE return on your money than you pay for. Both this book and it’s companion, Prescription for Nuitritional Healing are worth their weight in GAS! I know the old standard was gold.. but Gas is worth more now. All kidding aside, I’ve kept both books close by since the day I purchased them. And Reccomend both books to anyone with ailments that require expensive medications. They just may surprise you!
healing book
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
not what I expected and not as useful as was advertised. Very hard to find the correct information and I believe there is a lot of information that could be in this book that is not. Disappointed if I spent more than a few dollars on the book but for just a few bucks used and shipping I am sure I will get my $7 total out of the book sooner or later.

A Must Have Book
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is desiring to find natural healing methods to address various ailments. Tells you WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOURSELF. Be your own best Doctor. The author also includes information on herbs which is invaluable. She also lists contraindications where there should be a warning if used with prescription drugs. Her first book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, was so good that I couldn’t resist purchaing the companion volume on healing with herbs. I also purchased a copy of this book for my brother-in-law and had Amazon ship it to him. He has found help through this book also. I would highly recommend this book, as well as, the author’s first book.
Great reference
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought both Nutritional Healing and Herbal Healing by Phyllis Balch. These books are a wonderful resource. I am a chronic migraine sufferer seaking alternative remedies and the suggestions in the books correlated with neurology studies using alternative methods. I would highly recommend these books to anyone seeking alternative remedies.
Over rated

There are better books.
The book is also promoted on the author’s worthless credentials… had I realized she her “degrees” were not from accredited sources, I wouldn’t have bought anything she writes.
Good info, but organized by disease
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I like the author’s information, but do NOT like the way she organized it alphabetically by disease. I want to read about herbs when they are listed by themselves alphabetically. I’d like reference to be made to “all herbs that contribute to immune boosting” or “all herbs that help the body fight fatigue” also. I don’t want to read about every disease in the book just to find out which properties an herb might have. I dislike the organization of this particular book.

I love this book.

I had this book when I had cancer in 2003; it was wonderful. It was the most extensive and knowledgeable book on herbs for cancer that I have ever seen. It’s chock full of information. What I also appreciated very much is that she discusses the various chemotherapies and what herbs to take to complement them. I had never seen anything like that. And when she said that anybody who had Hodgkin’s should never take ascorbic acid, that was information never seen. It was a wonderful companion during my illness and I am very grateful for it. I wish that it was updated.
Wishing it was a little smaller

The only complaint I have on this one is that it is NOT pocket size. I refer to this one a lot. Excellent!

Purchased this book and its counterpart, “Prescription for Nutritional Healing”, by Phyllis Balch. Very useful information for those conscientious about non-drug remedies.
An Excellent Herb Bible!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is an excellent Herb Bible to me. It is sorted by herbs as well as by ailments in alpha order. I am a firm believer of natural healing using mother nature’s herbs and this is a good start for those who wants to pursue alternative medicine or natural healing.
A classic on herbal medicine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This will remain a classic on herbal medicine. Do buy it. It’s worth it for the detailed information.
Great reference book
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
1st part herbs and what the are used for. 2nd part, conditions and what herbs may help. Easy to use, a cool book. Oddly I don’t think it mentions Oil of oregano anywhere! I’d still pick up a copy.
